Our in-country partner, Hombres y Mujeres en Accion, is an official NGO (non-governmental organization) in Guatemala. Most of their employees live in San Martin, Jilotepeque or surrounding villages. They are bi-lingual, speaking Spanish, Kachiquel or English. Everyone is sensitive to the Maya culture and understands well the problems inherent to living in extreme poverty.
Hombres y Mujeres en Accion has the responsibility to work with the indigenous, teaching them how to prioritize their needs and develop solutions. They monitor each project. The health team conducts weekly health clinics in San Martin, Jilotepeque and in remote villages. They emphasize patient education focusing on healthy lifestyles, maternal and child health, how to manage chronic diseases, as well as family planning education. Their efforts impact hundreds of people resulting in healthier families and stronger communities.
